This practice is an ancient treatment that painlessly relieves pressure and congestion in the ears and sinuses. It stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms. Utilized for over 3000 years, coning, sometimes called candling, continues to offer a safe and effective means of detoxifying the mind and body, supporting the immune system, and triggering the autonomic nervous system. It is:

  • Great for balance in yoga and tai chi

  • Removes excess ear wax to improve hearing

  • Relieves congestion in sinuses due to allergies or infections

  • Helps flyers and scuba divers with plugged ears

  • Helps those with Meniere’s disease—vertigo and dizziness

  • Helps relieve chronic ear infections and sinus infections.

An ear cone or candle (a hollow beeswax and muslin tube) is inserted into the ear and the opposite end is lit. The smoke from the cone travels into the ear canal, changing the pressure of the inner ear. Meanwhile, the heat from the flame expands the canal, which aids the body in ridding the ear of excess wax.

We will learn the process of ear coning and its advantages and then practice on a friend under supervision and have our ears cleaned as well. We will supply the ear cones.
