Yoga and Spirituality

The Institute of the Himalayan Tradition ^(R) was inaugurated as a spiritual teaching center by the saint, His Holiness Swami Rama of the Himalayas.  One of the rare yoga masters of the world, he was born in the Garhwal Himalayas, raised by the yogic master, Bengali Baba, and trained in the 6000 year-old Himalayan Yoga Tradition, the oldest, non-broken tradition of spirituality in the world.  Sent to the West to teach in 1969, Swami Rama demonstrated the scientific basis of yoga’s wisdom and body-mind control at the Menninger Foundation and in many universities.

Swami Jaidev and Ma Devi, long-time disciples and close companions of Sri Swami Rama, are the spiritual directors of IHT.  They, together with Manuraj, the president of IHT, many visiting yogis and health professionals, and certified hatha yoga teachers, pass on the ancient wisdom of the Himalayan sages as well as modern art and science in classes, seminars, retreats, celebrations, personal initiations, and spiritual guidance.

We envision life as a journey to fulfillment in body, mind, spirit.  At the very heart of our journey is hatha yoga and meditation.  We provide the essence of spirituality without the necessity for any particular dogma or doctrine.  We welcome people of every religious background, every race, age, ethnicity, and ability.  All seekers may come to study in the pure, classical, traditional, and welcoming environment of this major center of the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga!
